Lentil Dahl is made primarily of split peas. Some compare it to split pea soup. Dahl is enjoyed in India and Caribbean regions. Dahl is not only nutritious and flavorful but packed with tons of protein.

Ingredients

1cupyellow split peas
3cupsof boiling water
1teaspoonof turmeric powder
1sliced onion
Salt to taste
1/2teaspooncayenne pepper
2thinly sliced garlic cloves
1/2teaspoonof olive oil
1/2chicken bouillon cubeOmit if vegetarian
One scotch bonnet pepper

Preparation
Start by adding turmeric powder to boiling water. Stir turmeric powder and boiling water to combine.
Add split peas to the boiling water.
Add onions and chicken bouillon cube and continue to stir. Add pinch of salt to taste and scotch bonnet pepper. If you want to increase the heat intensity you can open the Scotch bonnet pepper. The heat is located within the seeds of the pepper.
Once the split peas begin to break down and soften and the dahl becomes thicken to your desired consistency, turn stove top off. Mash if necessary.
Add olive oil to low flamed pre-heated skillet, adding garlic slices allow garlic to become brown.
Spoon garlic on to dahl. Garnish with fresh cilantro or fresh parsley.
