- 1 cup yellow split peas
- 3 cups of boiling water
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 sliced onion
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 thinly sliced garlic cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1/2 chicken bouillon cube Omit if vegetarian
- One scotch bonnet pepper
Instructions
- Preparation
- Start by adding turmeric powder to boiling water. Stir turmeric powder and boiling water to combine.
- Add split peas to the boiling water.
- Add onions and chicken bouillon cube and continue to stir. Add pinch of salt to taste and scotch bonnet pepper. If you want to increase the heat intensity you can open the Scotch bonnet pepper. The heat is located within the seeds of the pepper.
- Once the split peas begin to break down and soften and the dahl becomes thicken to your desired consistency, turn stove top off. Mash if necessary.
- Add olive oil to low flamed pre-heated skillet, adding garlic slices allow garlic to become brown.
- Spoon garlic on to dahl. Garnish with fresh cilantro or fresh parsley.
